Ballston Spa Middle School (BSMS) students recently participated in the first stage of the National Geographic GeoBee in their social studies classes to prepare for the annual competition. On January 23, 2020 over 50 students competed in the school round of the GeoBee.
Students who proceeded to the final championship round included Cayden Billings, Donovan Calvert, Evan Farrar, Gregory Kaatz, and Alexander Wade. By accurately answering two of the three questions in the championship round, Gregory Kaatz became the BSMS GeoBee champion of 2020. This is the second year that Gregory has won the BSMS National Geographic GeoBee.
As winner of the BSMS GeoBee, Gregory advances to the next level of competition, a written examination to determine state competitors. An examination score in the top 100 will qualify him for the state level competition which will be held in April in Albany, NY. All state champions will advance to the national championship and compete for the first prize, a college scholarship, at the national competition in May in Washington, D.C.
