District Budget Vote Information

The development of the 2020-2021 General Fund Operating Budget officially began in December with the presentation of the Budget Principles document to the Board of Education. At the December 18, 2019 meeting, the Board was presented with the 2020-21 Budget Goals. Both of these documents as well as the district’s Priorities and Goals can be found here on this website.

As we progressed through the development process, we were guided by these documents which, in sum, suggest that we will provide the best possible program opportunities to our students within the confines of the tax paying community. Each year this is a difficult balancing act as there are inevitably changes in requirements, learning standards, etc., from the state and federal governments which in turn often require additional training and resources to ensure that we comply with these requirements, while also maintaining a very high standard for teaching and learning within the district.

The Board of Education approved the proposed budget at the May 20, 2020 Board of Education meeting. Please review the district newsletter HERE for details, watch the live Twitter broadcast of the Board of Education meetings and/or contact us for more information.  In addition, residents may call the district’s budget hotline with specific questions for the Assistant Superintendent for Business at 518-884-7195 ext. 1320.

A budget Hearing took place on May 27, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting was presented to the public via live stream directly on Twitter or via the District’s website HERE.

The annual statewide School Budget Vote and Board of Education Elections will be held by mail with ballots due back to the district by 5:00 pm on June 9, 2020.

If a resident of the School District meets the definition of a “qualified voter” but has not registered to vote, (s)he must register to be eligible to receive a ballot.  A qualified voter may register with the county by contacting the Saratoga County Board of Elections, or at the District’s registration day - June 2, 2020.  Voters living in the Town of Malta must go to the Malta Town Hall between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm, while all other voters must go to the District Office between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm. IMPORTANT: If you register at the District Voter Registration Day, you are only registered to vote in school elections, not any other elections. Because of this, the vast majority of voters register with the county.

Board of Education Elections: There are two full term (three year) Board seats up for election this year, commencing in July 2020. Interested voters will select from the following candidates: Matthew Dreher, Lillian McCarthy, Rebekah Deuel-Jones, Susan Filburn, Susan Moore, David Newell, and Katie Whittemore. Meet the Candidates for Ballston Spa CSD Board of Education – (~ 40 min video)
