District School Receives Generous Donation

Junior League Donates School Supplies for Entire School in Ballston Spa

Now in its 21st year, Operation Back to School donates all the supplies teachers request to ensure a successful school year for students.

The Junior League of Schenectady and Saratoga Counties generously donated more than $10,000 in school supplies to over 500 Wood Road Elementary School students in Ballston Spa. The school teachers were asked to supply a list of the specific items that would be needed by their students when they return to school on September 7, 2023 and the JLSS secured the items during the summer months. "For more than 20 years, the Junior League of Schenectady and Saratoga Counties has provided children of our community school supplies", said Junior League President Denise Murphy McGraw. "What makes our program unique is the fact we work with educators to identify exactly the supplies students need to be successful. We are thrilled to be working with the Ballston Spa Central School District this year".

Students, staff and volunteers were busy sorting the supplies and delivering them to all the classrooms during the week before school starts. Members of the school’s Student Council participated in the event and were thrilled to see all the new supplies being delivered to the classrooms in preparation for the first day of classes on September 7th.

"We are deeply thankful for the Junior League's remarkable contribution of school supplies for every student at Wood Road. Their generosity will support the learning for all students, underscoring the profound impact that community partnerships can have on education, indicated Principal Anders Rasmussen. Further, “Through this generous donation, the Junior League has not only provided essential tools for learning but also relieved a burden from so many families that struggle each year to provide these supplies for their children.”

The Wood Road elementary school community is so grateful for this donation, and looks forward to continuing this wonderful partnership with the Junior League. For more information, please contact JLSS President Denise Murphy McGraw at or
