Meet the Board Members
Dottie Sellers, President
Dottie Sellers was appointed to a vacant seat on the BOE in March 2015 and elected to serve a second three-year term beginning in July 2019. She was selected as the President in July 2019, after previously serving as the Vice President of the Board. Dottie served in various PTA positions at the Ballston Spa Middle School from 2009 – 2011 and has also served on various committees and boards within Ballston Spa. Dottie is a current board member for the Ballston Area Community Center. Dottie and her husband Jim have one daughter who is a recent graduate of Ballston Spa High School and Siena College. They have lived in Ballston Spa since 2009 when she and her husband retired from the US Army. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland University College. Mike O'Donnell was elected to serve a three-year term on the Board in May 2018. He was originally appointed to fill a vacancy on the Board in October 2016 and then elected to fill a one-year term in May 2017. He is a 17 year resident of Milton and he and his wife Michelle have 2 daughters, one a recent graduate of Ballston Spa High School, and one a current sophomore. Mike graduated from Shenendehowa High School in 1982 and earned a bachelor of arts degree in Political Science in 1986 from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, NY. Locally, he has volunteered with the Miss Scotties Softball League, the BARC Summer Theater and Launching Pad Productions. He has worked in the sales and logistics industries for over 25 years. Jason Fernau was elected to the Board of Education in May 2018 to a three-year term. He is a proud BSHS graduate and has been a resident in the district for over 40 years. He is the parent of a current 10th grader, and has a son who is a BSHS graduate. Jason has served as a past Vice President of the Malta Avenue PTA, a past Treasurer of the District PTA Council, and for the last two years has served as its President. He currently works for MAXIMUS, working for the New York State of Health (Health Care Exchange), leading a reporting and data analytics team. His educational background consists of an undergraduate degree in English Education from Boston University, and a Master's of Business Administration from the University at Albany, SUNY. Chris Farnan was elected to a three-year term on the Board of Education in May 2018 after having served in a variety of volunteer positions in the BSCSD since 2002. A life long resident of the village of Ballston Spa, she attended Malta Avenue Elementary School, St. Mary’s School, and Ballston Spa High School. Chris received a bachelor’s degree from Siena College, a master’s degree from The College of Saint Rose, and a Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Albany. Chris and her husband Angelo D’Annibale, an elementary teacher in the district, have two sons. Their older son graduated from Ballston Spa High School in 2017 and their younger son is a current High School student. Melissa Glastetter was elected to serve a three-year term on the Board in May 2019. She is a lifelong residents of Ballston Spa. Both she and her husband Joel are graduates of Ballston Spa High School and have two children who currently attend Ballston Spa Schools. Melissa is a graduate of Mildred Elley Business School and has been employed as a Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician for 21 years. She is currently employed by DCI-Rubin, Inc. Melissa has spent several years involved with many local school and community programs including Launching Pad Productions, Ballston Spa High Schools Troupe and the Ballston Area Recreation Commission. Katie Whittemore was elected to the BOE in June of 2020 for a three-year term. Katie has taught mathematics at Shenendehowa High School since 2006. She also serves on the Park and Recreation Advisory Committee for the Town of Ballston and is the Membership Chair for the Gordon Creek Elementary School PTA. Katie and her husband Scott are the proud parents of two children who attend Gordon Creek Elementary School. Katie earned dual undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Education from Duquesne University and went on to earn a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from McDaniel College. Matthew Dreher was elected to serve a three year term on the Board of Education in June 2020. He is a lifelong resident of Ballston Spa, having attended Milton Terrace Elementary School, Ballston Spa Middle School and graduating from Ballston Spa High School in 1991. He received a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from SUNY Plattsburgh. Matthew and his wife Rebecca have two children. Their daughter is in 11th grade at the Ballston Spa High School and their son is in 4th grade at Wood Road Elementary School. He has been employed for over 20 years at the Saratoga County Department of Social Services. He also serves on the Board at the Christian Childhood Center at St.Paul’s in Saratoga Springs and is a dance dad, theatre dad and baseball dad. Please feel free to email Mr. Dreher here.
