Meet the Board Members
Dottie Sellers, President
Dottie Sellers was appointed to a vacant seat on the BOE in March 2015 and elected to serve a second three-year term beginning in July 2019. She was selected as the President in July 2019, after previously serving as the Vice President of the Board. Dottie served in various PTA positions at the Ballston Spa Middle School from 2009 – 2011 and has also served on various committees and boards within Ballston Spa. Dottie is a current board member for the Ballston Area Community Center. Dottie and her husband Jim have one daughter who is a recent graduate of Ballston Spa High School and Siena College. They have lived in Ballston Spa since 2009 when she and her husband retired from the US Army. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland University College. Lillian McCarthy, Vice President
Lillian McCarthy was elected to the BOE in May 2017 for a three-year term. She was selected as the Vice President of the Board in July 2019. She has been a member of the Ballston Spa community her entire life. She has worked in the nonprofit human services field for over 23 years. She currently serves as the Associate Director of The Prevention Council in Saratoga Springs. From 2005 to 2017 Lillian served as the Director of Community Services at the Saratoga County Economic Opportunity Council, with previous related positions at agencies within the Human Services in the area. Lillian and her husband live in Milton with their two children. Her son graduated in 2016 from Ballston Spa and her daughter is a current Junior. She currently sits on the Saratoga County Community Services Board and is a Family Development credentialed worker. She obtained her AAS from Hudson Valley Community College and her BS from Russell Sage College in Psychology Human Services, minor in sociology and focus in drug and alcohol. Jeanne Obermayer was originally elected in 2005 and was reelected in May 2017 to her fifth term on the Board. She was selected as the President in July 2012 and reelected in July 2013, after previously serving as the Vice President of the Board, and was a member of the Board's Executive Committee. She also served on the Finance/Audit, Policy, Instructional and Nominating Committees. Mrs. Obermayer has resided in Milton since 1990 and has a daughter and a son who are recent graduates of Ballston Spa. She also serves as the past President of the Board for The Saratoga Historical Society and its Museum, Brookside Museum and as the secretary for the YMCA Camp Chingachgook Board of Advisors. Mrs. Obermayer works for Siena College in Student Life. Mrs. Obermayer was the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs/Dean of Students for 16 years before assuming her current position overseeing risk management and regulatory compliance for Student Life. Mike O'Donnell was elected to serve a three-year term on the Board in May 2018. He was originally appointed to fill a vacancy on the Board in October 2016 and then elected to fill a one-year term in May 2017. He is a 17 year resident of Milton and he and his wife Michelle have 2 daughters, one a recent graduate of Ballston Spa High School, and one a current sophomore. Mike graduated from Shenendehowa High School in 1982 and earned a bachelor of arts degree in Political Science in 1986 from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, NY. Locally, he has volunteered with the Miss Scotties Softball League, the BARC Summer Theater and Launching Pad Productions. He has worked in the sales and logistics industries for over 25 years. Jason Fernau was elected to the Board of Education in May 2018 to a three-year term. He is a proud BSHS graduate and has been a resident in the district for over 40 years. He is the parent of a current 10th grader, and has a son who is a BSHS graduate. Jason has served as a past Vice President of the Malta Avenue PTA, a past Treasurer of the District PTA Council, and for the last two years has served as its President. He currently works for MAXIMUS, working for the New York State of Health (Health Care Exchange), leading a reporting and data analytics team. His educational background consists of an undergraduate degree in English Education from Boston University, and a Master's of Business Administration from the University at Albany, SUNY. Chris Farnan was elected to a three-year term on the Board of Education in May 2018 after having served in a variety of volunteer positions in the BSCSD since 2002. A life long resident of the village of Ballston Spa, she attended Malta Avenue Elementary School, St. Mary’s School, and Ballston Spa High School. Chris received a bachelor’s degree from Siena College, a master’s degree from The College of Saint Rose, and a Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Albany. Chris and her husband Angelo D’Annibale, an elementary teacher in the district, have two sons. Their older son graduated from Ballston Spa High School in 2017 and their younger son is a current High School student. Melissa Glastetter was elected to serve a three-year term on the Board in May 2019. She is a lifelong residents of Ballston Spa. Both she and her husband Joel are graduates of Ballston Spa High School and have two children who currently attend Ballston Spa Schools. Melissa is a graduate of Mildred Elley Business School and has been employed as a Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician for 21 years. She is currently employed by DCI-Rubin, Inc. Melissa has spent several years involved with many local school and community programs including Launching Pad Productions, Ballston Spa High Schools Troupe and the Ballston Area Recreation Commission.
