The Ballston Spa Central School District Science Program is committed to:
- Preparing all students to be responsible and informed citizens in a world that is increasingly affected by advancements in science and technology.
- Preparing all students to be scientifically literate so they can comprehend, analyze, and meaningfully participate in the debate of scientific issues.
- Developing students’ critical thinking and analytical skills through research and the use of the science and engineering practices.

Elementary Science Program
The elementary science program is aligned to the New York State Science Learning Standards. Each grade level has a set of performance expectations that includes concepts from the life sciences, earth sciences, and physical sciences. The performance expectations at each grade level allow students to use science and engineering practices (skills) and concepts that cut across all three science disciplines to develop an understanding of the world around them. Students in fourth grade will take the NYS 4th grade Science Assessment.
Ballston Spa Middle School Science Program
The middle school science team is currently transitioning our curriculum to be aligned to the New York State Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS). Each grade level has a set of performance expectations that includes concepts from the life sciences, earth sciences, and physical sciences. The performance expectations at each grade level allow students to use science and engineering practices (skills) and concepts that cut across all three science disciplines to develop an understanding of the world around them. All students in Science 8 will take the NYS Intermediate Science 8 exam at the end of 8th grade. Students that demonstrate exceptional skills and understanding in math and science have the opportunity to accelerate in science in 8th grade and take Regents Earth Science. Ballston Spa High School Science Program
In addition to the core sciences of Biology, Earth Science, Chemistry and Physics; the High School Science Department offers students the chance to explore some of the applied sciences such as Biomedical Science, Astronomy and Forensics. The department offers AP, IB, and College in the High School classes.
