NYS Grades 3-8 Testing Requirements

All students in Grades 3-8 are required to participate in the New York State Testing Program (NYSTP), and must sit for annual assessments in accordance with New York State and Federal regulations.  The following assessments are administered at each grade level:

  • Grade 3:  NYS Assessment in English Language Arts; NYS Assessment in Mathematics
  • Grade 4:  NYS Assessment in English Language Arts; NYS Assessment in Mathematics, 
  • Grade 5:  NYS Assessment in English Language Arts; NYS Assessment in Mathematics, NYS Science (2024)
  • Grade 6:  NYS Assessment in English Language Arts; NYS Assessment in Mathematics
  • Grade 7:  NYS Assessment in English Language Arts; NYS Assessment in Mathematics
  • Grade 8:  NYS Assessment in English Language Arts; NYS Assessment in Mathematics; NYS Assessment in Science  


As these assessments are a requirement, families are encouraged to plan around assessment dates, and support their child's attendance at school during the administration period. For specific assessment information, please contact your child's teacher or building principal.  The district calendar provides information regarding all activities on various dates throughout the school year.
