We are pleased to announce that $2,000 was awarded to the Gordon Creek Elementary School PTA to provide Arts-In-Education programs in the schools. “We are thrilled to receive the support of the GLOBALFOUNDRIES-Town of Malta Foundation to enhance our programs throughout the district,” said Superintendent Ken Slentz of the Ballston Spa CSD. Further, “We appreciate their ongoing investment in providing the best learning experiences and opportunities for students.” The GLOBALFOUNDRIES-Town of Malta Foundation recently presented its 2018 slate of grants totaling over $165,450, benefiting 46 local organizations and community projects. • The Ballston Spa Central School District is excited to announce that we will once again be holding a district-wide Elementary Science & Engineering Fair. I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to encourage your child to participate in this event. Through participation, students have the opportunity to continue to develop their curiosity, creativity and communication skills as they explore and present a project based on a topic of their choice.

The Elementary Science & Engineering Fair will be held on March 2, 2019 in the Milton Terrace/Wood Road Cafetorium from 9:30-11:30 am. At this event students have the opportunity to share their project with reviewers and earn their "Investigator’s License".

We have developed a number of resources to help your child design and run an experiment or test a solution to a problem. These resources can be found at www.bscsd.org/elemsciencefair. Our elementary library media specialists will be working with students this month to find resources and help students pick a topic that they might want to explore. In addition, many students will be working on a science unit in class that utilizes the engineering design process. Super Science Saturday which will be held on Saturday, January 19th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm is another great way to get ideas for a project.

We encourage all students to continue the research process at home and create a presentation for the Science & Engineering Fair. Students in kindergarten have an option to complete and enter a collection-based project as an alternative to the standard research-based experiment or engineering design project,

We hope your child will consider participating in the Elementary Science & Engineering Fair on March 2nd. Please contact your child’s teacher for additional information or email me at dirwin@bscsd.org.

    Regards,

    Diane Irwin

    K-12 Science Coordinator
