School and Classroom Rules and Consequences

  • Milton Terrace North has a school-wide positive behavior plan called PBIS. We have 3 rules at Milton Terrace North:

    Be Respectful
    Be Responsible
    Be Safe

During the first week of school, we discussed in detail what each rule means and how to be respectful, responsible, and safe throughout our school building. We learned how to be respectful, responsible, and safe in the classroom, in the cafeteria, during an assembly, in the bathroom, on the bus, at recess, and in the hallways. Students understand what behaviors are expected and will be held accountable for their choices!

At Milton Terrace North we also have voice level expectations. Students are familiar with the Voice Level Chart which has 5 different levels. 0 is silence, 1 is a whisper voice, 2 is a partner voice, 3 is a teacher voice, and 4 is an outside voice. Students know the proper voice level for different situations and locations throughout our building.

    CLIP CHART and SCOTTIE BUCKS

In our classroom, we will monitor our behavior choices using a Clip Chart which has 7 different sections. Super Student, Great Job, Good Job, Ready to Learn, Think About It, Teacher's Choice, and Parent Contact which will be a referral. Every student in the classroom will have their own clip.  Each day students will start off on the green "Ready to Learn" section of our clip chart.  Throughout the day students will move their clip up and down the chart based on their behavior choices. The great thing about this is that they ALWAYS have a chance during the day to move up the chart!

    Here is our Clip Chart!

Super Student: The Super Student level is reserved for outstanding behavior. A student who reaches this level will earn a special note home, and a jewel on his/her clip. After five jewels, clips will be retired to the Hall of Fame and a new clip will be given! If a student ends up on Super Student at the end of the day, they will earn a $10 Scottie Buck!

Great Job: Students can move to the Great Job level for continuing to display good behavior. You should be very proud of your child for reaching this level! If a student ends up on Great Job at the end of the day, they will earn a $5 Scottie Buck!

Good Choices: Students will move to the Good Choices level for showing that they are making the right behavior decisions! Ending the day on this level is great! If a student ends up on Good Choices at the end of the day, they will earn $3 in Scottie Bucks!

Ready to Learn: Every student will start the day on the Ready to Learn level. As the day goes on, clips can be moved up and down, based on behavior. This level is a good one to be on! If a student ends up on Ready to Learn at the end of the day, they will earn a $1 Scottie Buck!

Think About It: A student will be moved to the Think About It level as a warning about his/her behavior, and a reminder to follow the rules. If a student ends up on Think About It at the end of the day, they will not earn any Scottie Bucks.

Teacher's Choice: Students who continue to display poor behavior can move down to the Teach's Choice level. Here, the teacher can decide what action to take. Students will also need to go to Reflection Center and reflect on their behavior and how they are going to make sure this behavior does not happen again. The Reflection Center sheet will be signed by the student, teacher, and parent. If a student ends up on Teacher's Choice at the end of the day, they will not earn any Scottie Bucks. Three times to Reflection Center in one month will equal a referral.

Parent Contact: When a student moves to the Parent Contact level, the teacher will notify parents via note or phone call, a visit to the Principal's office will be made, and a referral will be given. This student will also need to go to Reflection Center. If a student has one referral in a month, they will not be able to participate in our PBIS monthly party at the end of the month. If a student ends up on Parent Contact at the end of the day, they will not earn any Scottie Bucks.

Positive behavior choices will be rewarded throughout the day. This year Milton Terrace North has Scottie Bucks which the students can earn if they are being respectful, responsible, and safe. If students end up on the "Ready to Learn" section at the end of the day they will earn a $1 Scottie Buck. If students end up on the "Good Choices" section at the end of the day they will earn a $2 in Scottie Bucks. If students end up on the "Great Choices" section at the end of the day they will earn $3 in Scottie Bucks. If students end up on the "Outstanding" section at the end of the day they will get to put a gem on their clothespin, will have a happy note sent home, and will earn a Scottie Paw!

Students can trade in their Scottie Bucks at the school store each week to buy some neat things. They can also trade in their Scottie Bucks for raffles, being on the Wall of Fame, eating with Mrs. Chaucer, doing the announcements, etc. Students will also have the opportunity to trade in their Scottie Bucks to do special things in our classroom. Students may chose to trade in their Scottie Bucks to eat lunch with the teacher and a friend, sit in the teacher's chair, do show and tell, read a book to the class, etc.

I am very excited about the PBIS program and the Scottie Bucks. This is a wonderful system because it allows your child to be rewarded for the positive behavior choices they are making in which they go above and beyond. I am excited to tell you about your child's GREAT and OUTSTANDING days!

Every day your child will fill out a sheet which will indicate which section of the Clip Chart they ended up on at the end of the day. This sheet will stay in their homework folder so that you can see how they did each day. Please initial each day so that I know you are aware of your child's behavior in school!
