    The boys lost to Niskayuna 1-2, but played tough and well. Freshman Nick Verdile scored for the Scotties and nearly had what would’ve been the game-tying goal in the closing minutes. Next up is Shaker on Tuesday.

    Student-Athlete Highlights - 
    Ballston Spa’s Mikayla Kelley capitalized on a 16th minute penalty kick to give the Scottie’s the 1-0 win over Niskayuna.  Sarah Rule was on the attack dribbling through the box when she was fouled earning the PK.  Niskayuna would create heavy offensive pressure throughout the rest of the match but the Scottie’s defense was up to the challenge consisting of Ava Durfee, Ali Sgambati, Kristen Lewza, Grace Foti, along with midfielders Mikayla Kelley and Maddy Barnum, and keeper Shaylee AndressBallston Spa GK Shaylee Andress saved 8 of 8.

    It took Ballston Spa 89 minutes to get the go ahead goal that would ultimately decide the game.  The Scottie’s started off the scoring in the 11th minute with Gillian Snyder finding the feet of Maddy Barnum who put the first tally on the board.  Equaling the game was Columbia’s Isabella Perrett with 15 minutes left in the half.  It would be Megan Sanbrook who would shoot car post past a diving Shaylee Andress to take Columbia 2-1 into halftime.  The Scottie’s wasted no time needing only 43 seconds into the second half to find the back of the net thanks to the foot of Mikayla Kelley and the help of Jordyn Ostrander.  Both sides saw great chances with amazing saves by Shaylee Andress of Bspa and Kyra Russo of Columbia.  Shay had a tip save in the waning seconds of regulation to keep the game tied at 2.  Nine minutes into overtime and this time it would be Kelley with the assist to Keira Dashnow giving the Scottie’s the lead and the win.  The Scottie’s are now 3-1 In the Suburban Council and 5-1 overall.

    Student-Athlete Highlights - 
    The Ballston Spa JV boys soccer team beat Columbia 3-0. Riley Box scored twice, and Noah Datka added a goal as well. The defense and keepers kept the opposition scoreless for the first time this season. Damon Schroter and Aiden Fletcher anchored the defense as usual, and Jhayde Gomez joined the unit for the first time, playing tremendously.


    JV Volleyball - Sat. 9/7 - Broadalbin - Perth Tournament -
    Student-Athlet Highlights - 
    The JV Volleyball team played awesome at the Broadalbin tournament on Saturday. Ballston Spa beat Columbia in the quarterfinals, but lost to Queensbury in the semi. 8th grader Makenna Catherall was picked for the all-star tournament team (only 9 players total from of pool of 16 teams were selected).

    Colonie’s Ianah Mackey scores first to make it 1-0 seven minutes into the game.  The next five goals would go to the Scottie’s.  Jordyn Ostrander scores unassisted to the game.  Sarah Rule puts the go ahead in with an assist from Ostrander.  After the half it would be a cross from Gillian Snyder to Kaia Hemming making it 3-1.  Three minutes later Rule picks up her second goal heading Maddy Barnum’s service.  Sophomore Maddy Wania knocks in the Scottie’s final goal with the assist of Izzy Griswold.  Sixteen minutes left in the game saw a rally from Colonie with Vanessa Jones placing the ball at Corinne Jackson’s feet who knocked it home 5-2.  Ianah Mackey completes Colonie’s scoring with her second goal assisted by Jackson to complete the score 5-3. BSpa keeper Shaylee Andress saved 17 of 20.

    Student-Athlete Highlights - 
    The Scottie’s hosted the Lady Dutchmen this afternoon for their first game of Suburban Council league play.  Though the Scottie’s came out strong maintaining possession and creating multiple opportunities including a Sarah Rule crossbar hit in the first ten minutes, it would be Riley Grimm’s first half hat trick that would ultimately win the game for Guilderland.  Riley had two assists from Margot Nezaj and one from Zoey Kmack.  The second half saw a Bspa rally with Jordyn Ostrander cutting off a corner kick immediately finding Sarah Rule that assisted Kelly DuBois who beat the keeper to make it 1-3.  Kelly DuBois would then assist Samantha DeVito who battled the keeper and won with a header to narrow the margin down to 1.  

    Girls Varsity Soccer - Sat. 8/31 Scott J. Retersdorf Tournament at Gloversville High School - 
    Student-Athlete Highlights - 
    Ballston Spa traveled to Gloversville for the final of the 5th Annual Scott J. Retersdorf Memorial Tournament.  The Scottie’s took on the home town Lady Dragons in what turned out to be a perfect night for playing soccer.  This is the 5th time these two teams have met in the finals and it was Ballston Spa who took home the cup with a 6-0 victory.  The Scottie’s saw a fair amount of the possession and Sarah Rule would complete her second hat trick in two days. Kaia Hemming opened up the scoring for the Scottie’s with an assist by Sarah Rule.  Sarah Rule would then put two in before the half making it 3-0 with assists by Maddy Barnum and Maddy Wania.  Three minutes into the second half Maddy Barnum found Jordyn Ostrander who tucked it to the lower corner making it 4-0.  Sarah Rule would complete her hat trick with the help of junior Scottie Gillian Snyder. Jordyn Ostrander would complete the Scottie’s scoring with an upper ninety tip to make it 6-0. BSpa keeper Shay Andress completed another shut out saving all five shots on goals.

    Friday August 30, Utica Proctor visited Ballston Spa. In the first half Brayden Box scored for Ballston Spa, and several minutes later Utica Proctor tied the game. In the second half Michael Robyck and Blake Heflin both scored for Ballston. Ethan Shuhart had 5 saves in goal for Ballston Spa. Ballston Spa 3 Utica Proctor 1

    Girls Varsity Soccer - Fri. 8/30 Scott J. Retersdorf Tournament at Gloversville High School - 
    Student- Athlete Highlights - 
    The Ballston Spa Girls Varsity Soccer team opened their season with a non league game against Northville.  The game is the first of two in the Scott J. Retersdorf Memorial Tournament hosted by Gloversviile.  Senior Sarah Rule of the Scottie’s earned her first career hat trick with all three goals assisted by senior Maddy Barnum.  The first goal was fed up the middle to Rule running on who tucked it away in the corner.  The second goal was a corner from Barnum that found Rule’s head and then the back of the net.  Scottie’s freshman  Keira Dashnow scored her first goal as a varsity player after intercepting a pass from the Northville defense and beat the keeper to make it 3-0 going into half.  It would again be Barnum to Rule who cut left and fired near post upper ninety to complete the hat trick. Goal number five was an own goal. Ballston Spa Goalie Shaylee Andress had 3 saves on 3 shots.  The Scottie’s face the winner of the semifinal match between Gloversille and Mayfield tomorrow night at 7pm on the Gloversville turf.
