Animals and Plants of the Northeast is a project-based course that allows students to learn about the common species that live in our ecosystem. It is a course that is meant to be fun, hands-on, and informative. A goal of the course is to create a better appreciation of the other species in our environment.
While we focus on organisms that live in the Northeast, we study some that live in other ecosystems. This course covers the following topics: taxonomy and classification, ecosystems, plants, insects, invertebrates, fish, birds and mammals. Students also learn about different careers in ecology, observe changes in an outdoor field study site and complete a final project.
