Concussions

  •                          Ballston Spa is Focused on Concussion Prevention

“A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury—or TBI— caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move quickly back and forth. This fast movement can cause the brain to bounce around or twist in the skull, creating chemical changes in the brain and sometimes stretching and damaging the brain cells.

Although most people recover fully after a concussion, how quickly they improve depends on many factors. These factors include how severe their concussion was, their age, how healthy they were before the concussion, and how they take care of themselves after the injury."

With the use of improved evaluation, symptom recognition and neurocognitive testing combined with education for coaches, athletes, parents and teachers Ballston Spa hopes to diminish the risks that concussions can bring to students.
