Who Am I?
I thought it would be fun to share some information about me as we head into a new school year. I’ve tried to list some of the questions I’m commonly asked. I look forward to getting to know each new student and their families as well.
Where did you grow up?
My family and I lived throughout New York State. I was born in Buffalo, NY and graduated from Scotia-Glenville High School but, we lived in Utica, Binghamton, Queens, Hyde Park and Schenectady while growing up. I went out west for college to Utah and then California. I did return to New York in 2000 and consider this area my home.
What’s your family like?
I don’t have any kids but, I have 1 nephew and 8 nieces. I have two brothers. One brother lives in Burlington, Vermont with my 1 nephew Ty, and 1 of my nieces Keira. They will be spending a few weeks with me this summer. My other brother lives in San Antonio, Texas and has 7 girls the oldest is 11 and the youngest is due in October. My parents live in Gansevoort now and are retired. My father was a school superintendent for 35 years. Education is our family business. My mother was a school secretary; she misses it and likes to come to visit my classroom often with new books and snacks. She is looking forward to meeting my new students. She often write our class postcards as she and my father spend half the year in NY and the winter in Texas with different trips along the way. I have a large extended family here in the area. Many are in the education field as teachers, superintendents, and board of education members.
What are some of your hobbies?
I love to read and consider that my first and favorite hobby. My goal is to read 30 books this summers. As of July 1st I have 3 done. I also love to cook and to bake and love to try new recipes. I collect cookbooks new and old ones. I also love to do crafts and to sew. One of my new craft hobbies is refurbishing and reupholstering furniture. Below is a picture of a chair I just finished with the then and now. This hobby lets me go to flea markets, antique shows and garage sales looking for my next project.
