Guidance Office

  • Welcome to the Ballston Spa High School Guidance Office.  We would like to thank you, in advance, for visiting our website. We hope you find it a helpful resource.

    The staff of the Ballston Spa High School Guidance Office is available to assist every student with their concerns about career planning, college placement, educational planning, testing, social, and academic needs. Students may stop by the guidance office before school, between classes, during non instructional time, or after school to see their counselor.  If a counselor is unavailable, students can sign-in to have a counselor send for them.

    We believe that learning is easier, more effective and less stressful when there is an environment that emphasizes:  feeling safe, caring, respect, fairness, empathy and integrity.  It is our goal that every student feels good about coming to school every day.

    News and Announcements   

    • Parents check out the Daily Morning Announcements on our website!  Announcements are posted in the glass case outside the cafeteria and on the website 

    • There is also a great deal of information posted under the STUDENTS Tab on the high school website.
    • Information is emailed home regularly through our School Messenger System. You can send an email to Kevin Flores at kflores@bscsd.org to check to make sure you have an updated email listed for these messages.

    ** ATTENTION JUNIORS AND FAMILIES **

     

    JUNIOR CONFERENCES:
    The High School Counseling Department is sending a letter home regarding upcoming Junior Conferences.  The School Counseling Department has created a College Planning Guide Book for the Class of 2021, which can now be found on the HS Guidance webpage linked here. .  The College Planning Guide Book includes information regarding the college application process, frequently asked questions, college visits and interviews, SAT and ACT testing, college essay writing, FAFSA and financial aid information.  Resources for students interested in employment and/or military opportunities can also be found on the HS Guidance webpage.

    A schedule of upcoming SAT/ACT test dates, a checklist of activities juniors should complete as they continue to create their post-secondary plan, and a parent brag sheet that we ask you to complete and return to your child’s school counselor are also attached with his message. 

    Beginning Monday, March 23rd, school counselors will meet with every junior individually to review their transcript and discuss their post-secondary plans.  Please contact your child’s school counselor if you would like to take part in this post-secondary planning meeting by phone or in person by Friday, March 20th via the contact information listed below.

    JUNIOR SCHOLARSHIPS:
    Attached you will also find an information sheet on junior scholarships.  To be considered for an award students must return this sheet, along with a copy of their resume to the Guidance Office by Monday, March 27th, 2020.  If you are awarded a scholarship you are not bound to attend that specific college, however you will only receive the monies if you enroll.  If you have any questions please contact your school counselor.

    Junior Scholarships

    2020-2021 COURSE SELECTION:
    High School Counselors have now met with each grade level to review course requests for the 2020-2021 school year.  Please remember that all requests to change a course selected for senior year must be submitted to the school counselor by Friday, May 1st.
