Meet Mrs. V :)
Mrs. V! That's what the kids call me! My name is Mrs. Van Volkenburg and I am a third grade teacher at Wood Road Elementary.
This is my eleventh year teaching in Ballston Spa and my sixth year teaching third grade. Ten years ago, I was known as Miss Sittnick and taught third grade right here in Wood Road. I taught at Wood Road for two years before moving to Milton Terrace North for 1 year. After that, I moved back to Wood Road and became a 4th grade teacher and stayed in fourth grade for 4 years. I moved to 2nd grade for one year before moving back to 3rd grade. Having taught 2nd and 4th allows me to have a great understanding of what students have learned and what they'll be learning in the future. I love teaching 3rd grade! :)
I love teaching and knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was very young. When I was a little girl, I lined up my stuffed animals as students and created worksheets "for them to do," which I would later grade!
I attended SUNY Geneseo, a state school known for teaching, near Rochester, NY. I got a degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. I continued my education at Geneseo and received my Master's degree in Literacy.
What else do you need to know about me?
My husband and I are originally from the Southern Tier of NY, near Buffalo. We've been together for around 16 years but were married in 2008. We have two wonderful dogs. Our "boys" are our Golden Retriever, Jake, and our rescue dog, an Australian Shepard mix, named Oliver. They are the cutest things ever!
Last year (2015), my husband and I officially became parents to our darling daughter Emma! She is growing rapidly and I am enjoying being a momma!! :)
When I am not teaching I love being with my family. All of our immediate family is spread out and lives a minimum of 3.5 hours away. We have brothers and sisters in Pennsylvania, Colorado and Minnesota!
I enjoy watching movies, reading, mini-golfing, summer BBQ's, scrapbooking, making jewelry and other crafts, and spending time with Emma!
I absolutely love what I do and enjoy being a teacher. My goal is to make your students enjoy school, learn lots, and become great kids and citizens. I hope that together we have a great year!
