Wood Road's Penny Harvest leaders collected the pennies from the annual Penny Harvest and brought them to SEFCU. The pennies will remain at SEFCU while the student roundtable discusses how the donation can be used to benefit a local non-profit. The students will narrow down a list of non-profits, and the entire school will then vote for an organization to receive the donation. The donation is presented in May. Penny Harvest has proven to be successful in educating students in service learning, financial literacy, and 21st Century learning skills. This program teaches students about the importance of philanthropy and service as well as teaching math, communication, and team building skills.
Wood Road's Turkey Shoot will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 3:30. The Hoops for Hunger event is for all Wood Road students. Students will take part in basketball shooting games and contests. Students are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to a local food pantry for Thanksgiving dinners. Kindergarten, first, and second grade students will need an adult chaperone. It's time for the Penny Harvest. Last year Wood Road was able to send more than $1400 to the Brave Will Foundation as a result of the donations. This year's collection runs from Monday, Oct. 22 through Monday, Dec. 3. One hundred percent of the money raised goes to a charity that the student's choose. The class that raises the most money will earn a pizza party.
Wood Road PTA invites students in all grades to participate in this year's talent show on Friday, Jan. 25, at 6:30 p.m.
Rehearsals are Wednesday, Jan. 16, Thursday, Jan. 17, and Tuesday, Jan. 22. Students in grades 3-5 can ride the late bus home if an authorization form is on file. Students in grades K-2 must be picked up by a gaurdian no later than 4:30 p.m. All acts and songs should be kept under three minutes and are subject to approval.
If your child is interested in the talent show, please fill out a talent show form and return it to your child's teacher on or before Monday, Jan. 21.

Wood Road's Little Elf Lane is on Friday, Dec. 14th. Little Elf Lane gives kids a chance to shop for gifts for the holidays. The event is sponsored by PTA. All gifts range from 25-cents to $5. A shopping list can be found here. Send money and the shopping list to school with your child on Friday, Dec. 14.
Honor a Veteran forms were sent home with students in October. Students are encouraged to complete their Honor a Veteran form to hang on the wall in the front hallway. Additional forms are available in the main office. Students are also encouraged to invite a family member or family friend who is a veteran to the Veterans assembly on Friday, Nov. 9, at 1:45 p.m.
On Friday, Nov. 9, Wood Road will be having our Veterans Day assembly at 1:45 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Students are encouraged to wear RED, WHITE, and BLUE for the assembly.
Calling all Scouts!
We are asking all Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts at Wood Road to please wear or bring their uniforms to school this day. The Scouts will be leading us in the Pledge and the school song during the assembly.
