The Ballston Spa Central School District Department of Special Education serves a diverse population of students with special needs. Our mission is to improve academic achievement for all students with disabilities and to empower our students to become independent and responsible adults.
Currently, Ballston Spa Central School District serves students with disabilities in grades kindergarten through 12. We offer a robust continuum of services, as per the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, Part 200 and Part 201.
Special Education/Innovative Programs - The programs and services listed in the Course Description Handbook are provided to students who have been determined by the district Committee on Special Education to be in need of an Individual Education Program (IEP).

518-884-7195 ext 1336Academic Intervention Services (AIS) - The goal of Academic Intervention Services (AIS) is to provide the academic support needed in order to enable students to successfully meet New York State standards. AIS are intended to support students who need help with reaching the New York State and district standards in the core areas if English, Social Studies, Math, and Science. Students are mandated for AIS classes based on State assessment results. Each core area has developed specific entrance and exit criteria for AIS classes.
AIS will provide the following:
- Support and reinforcement of classroom work
- Skills based instruction
- Individualized instruction
- Exam strategies
- Assistance with assignments
Students will be scheduled for these courses by semester. The district AIS plan has determined the entrance and exit criteria. Student will be removed from these classes when it is determined that they have met the exit criteria.
