Wednesday, September 15th:



Thursday, May 27th:     10 students

  • Organized boats and planned the schedule for the kayak/canoe trip.  Justice and his dad are looking to borrow a canoe from Derek.
  • We discussed ending and taking out at the state boat launch, but this site is closed and there are no other public egress locations on the lake.  So we will stick to our original plan to meet at the Lake Lonely Boat Livery as described in the permission slip.  We may extend the trip to go to Saratoga Lake and then return to the Lake Lonely Boat Livery, but we will determine this on Saturday morning in Kelley Park.
  • The Last Hike - A few students are still really excited for a June hike, so we planned another one for June 19th.  It looks like it will be a 9 mile hike that covers five high peaks (Armstrong, Gothics, Sawthooth, Upper & Lower Wolfjaw Mtns).  6/11 - This Hike was cancelled since there was not enough time to organize it as a school function.
  • T-Shirts should be in by the end of next week.  6/11 - T-shirts arrived and were distributed to all students who ordered a shirt.

 

Thursday, May 6th:     2 students

  • Reorganized date for kayak/canoe trip on the Kayderosseras for May 29th

 

Thursday, April 15th:     10 students

  • Planned to hike Buck Mtn. on April 24th - DRIVERS NEEDED!!!
  • Made plans to canoe the Kayderosseras on May 15th (Had to reschedule for May 22nd)
  • T-shirt money due by Friday, April 23rd - See Mr. Balet

 

Thursday, March 11th:      15 students

  • Blue & Chimney Mtn hike.  Leaving B-spa @ 7am on Sunday, March 21th.  Approrximately 13 students planning to hike.
  • T-shirts order is due by next week Friday, March 19th.
  • Spring hikes/events.  Next hike on April 24th to "undecided"?
  • Molly is researching costs for rafting in the spring.
  • Derek is researching costs for canoe / kayak rentals on the Scroon River.


Thursday, February 25th:     7 students

  • Chimney Mtn w/Malta Ave - March 21st
  • T-shirts - List of students who would like a shirt will be posted outside room 319.   Cotton shirts logo on front name on back with #46 = $14.00/shirt 
  • White-water rafting - Still need a student leader to coordinate this
  • Discussed spring kayak/canoe trip possibly on the Schroon river.

 

Thursday, February 11th:     8 students

  • Coordinated Cascade & Porter hike.  Five students planning to go and seven pairs of snowshooes will be borrowed from the Phys Ed equipment locker.
  • Ricky is still pulling together a T-shirt order.  Please see him if you want a T-shirt.
  • Discussed interest in a white-water rafting trip in the spring.  This would be a full day event in the Indian Lake area and the cost could range between $80 to $100 per student.  A student leader is needed to survey potential rafters and cooirdinate scheduling and cost of such a trip.


Thursday, January 14th:     8 students

  • Coordinated Phelps Hike
    • 3 drivers, 11 students
    • Meet at 6:15am at Mr. B's
    • Realistic hiking time 6-7 hours, but budgeting for 9
    • Be sure to bring sunglasses / ski goggles
    • 9 Pairs of snowshoes needed from school (will borrow 10 to be safe)
  • Next hike during Feb Break is yet to be determined
  • T-shirt: 7-10 people interested and Ricky is meetin with Mr. B tomorrow after school to look into printing costs
  • Reviewed characteristics of technical snowshoes (MSR Denali Evo) for students interested in more advanced winter hiking and camping

 

Thursday, January 7th:     10 students

  • Next hike chosen for Phelps Mtn on Sunday, January 17
    • Noel is the student leader for this hike.
    • Students who have never used snowshoes will stay after school Fri, Jan 8th with Mr. B to understand snowshoe technique
    • Any students attending the hike must attend the pre-hike meeting Jan 14th with all of their equipment to verify they are prepared for the hike.
  • Next hike date will be sometime over the February Break (14th - 19th).
  • Discussed possible trips to the Adirondack Extreme and Rafting on the Hudson.  Either trip costs approximately $80/person.
  • Ricky will look into the cost of T-shirts for the club.


Thursday, December 10th:    10 students

  • Planned Chimney Mountain Hike for Saturday, December 12th with 8 student's hiking and meeting @ Mr. Balet's house at 7:30 am.
  • The school can provide snowshoes for students that do not have them.
  • Mr. Balet reviewed essential clothing and gear for the hike.  One important piece of equipment is a pair of gaiters.  Students should acquire a pair of these if they plan to be involved in winter and spring hikes.
  • Discussed Hiking Eligibility:  Students failing 2 or more classes need to work with their teachers to improve their grade and show an improved level of effort in order to attend a hike.
  • Discussed next hike on Sunday (1/17) of the Martin Luther King holiday weekend.  Possibly to Phelps or Cascade Mountains.


Thursday, December 3rd:    12 students

  • Planned to hike Chimney Mountain on Saturday, December 12th with a rain date for the next Saturday, December 19th.
  • Molly really wants to hike Cascade & Porter sometime.
  • Also planned for a hike on the Sunday (1/17) of the Martin Luther King holiday weekend.  Possibly to Phelps or Cascade Mountains.


Thursday, November 12th - Pre-hike Meeting:    19 students

  • Due to the nasty weather on Saturday, the hike was moved to Sunday, November 15th.
  • Hikers are planning to meet and depart from Mr. Balet's house at 6am Sunday morning.


Thursday, October 22nd:   14 students

  • Group decided to postpone Giant Mountain hike to Saturday, November 14th.
  • A few students said that their parents may attend and will be getting back to Mr. Balet ASAP with confirmation.
  • Any student planning to attend this hike MUST have "over-the-ankle" hiking boots.  If they do not have this type of footwear, they will not be going on the hike.
  • Also, students attending the hike should be prepared for cold & snowy weather.


Thursday, October 15th:   16 students

  • Group decided to hike Giant Mountain will meet at the trailhead at 8 am on Saturday, October 24th.
  • A few students said that their parents may attend and will be getting back to Mr. Balet ASAP with confirmation.
  • Permission slips are due by Thursday, October 22nd and are available on the "Events" page or outside room 319.


Thursday, October 1
st:   4 students met informally in room 314 to discuss next hike
  • Oct  24th is a global awareness day for 350.org.  Students discussed possible event for the hike.  There is a video about it on Mr. B's teachershare drive in the "Unique Info" folder

Thursday, September 24
th - Pre-hike Meeting:   8 students present and planning to hike
  • Prepared for Black Mountain hike and organized rides to the trailhead.  Most are planning to meet at 6:15 and drive up together.
  • Next hike date was changed to October 24th.  All agreed to tackle a high peak.  Wright and Giant were mentioned as possibilities.  Students can come to the next meeting with suggestions.
  • Also, overnight hike was suggested.  More planning and time will be needed to do such a hike.

Thursday, September 17th - Pre-hike Meeting
  • Intro to the club - anyone can join anytime
  • Chose Black Mountain for first hike of this school year on September 26th.
  • Selected October 10th for next Hike date.
