Welcome from the Superintendent of Schools
Welcome to the new school year! Classes Begin September 7th
Welcome back to the 2010-2011 school year! It is truly an exciting time to be in Ballston Spa. We are leading the way with many innovative projects and programs that will continue to set us apart from other school districts. This year, we are launching a pharmaceutical Research curriculum, Pre-AP coursework in the Middle School, and a revised elementary report card as we continue to strengthen communication with parents and families. Our High School was named one of "America's Best High Schools" by Newsweek magazine, and we continue to excel in the Arts, Athletics and in academic and social extracurricular activities. Please visit the Office of District Advancement to learn more about our partners in business, industry and higher education, and how are "Partnership for Innovation in Education" program continues to secure nontraditional resources to provide the best learning opportunities for students.
In 2009, a Facilities Planning Team, comprised of 40 community members, parents, educators, local business representatives, community-based organizations and local elected officials. After a year and a half of planning by the Facilities Planning Team, we are moving forward with a referendum vote on October 19, 2010. Plans include significant renovations and new construction, beginning with critical health, safety and infrastructure items as prioritized and recommended by the Facilities Planning Team. We are proposing work at the Malta Avenue, Middle School and Milton Terrace North buildings, as well as a new building to replace the current Milton Terrace South structure. Please see the facilities Homepage for detailed information about the plan, including question and answer documents, cost and timeline information, and drawings of the proposed work. During September and October, there will be many informational meetings throughout the district and community to help you stay informed about the project. Please join us in learning about our facilities planning process and proposed construction phasing.
A team from the Ballston Spa Central School District recently participated in an innovative session led by Cisco to develop a "Day in the Life of a 21st Century Learner” project that focuses on connected learning and a technologically immersed educational environment. This unique project will provide students and teachers with an opportunity to benefit from the emphasis on new modes of collaboration and learning via a connected community and be better prepared for their future in the 21st century workforce.
The Ballston Spa CSD has become a leader in the development of STEM learning in K-12 education, especially in the creation of partnerships with business and higher education via their Partnership for Innovation in Education program, through which the district has developed a variety of new courses, curricula and enrichment opportunities for students. Read more about this exciting partnership here.
