Meet
the Ballston Spa Board of Education
|
Kathy Jarvis (President)
Kathy Jarvis was elected to the Board of Education in 1994 and was recently
reelected to her fifth term. She has served as Vice President and, in July
2004, was elected President of the Board. Kathy currently serves on the
Executive Committee with the Vice President and Superintendent of Schools.
Previously, Kathy served as President of the Ballston Spa Business and
Professional Association, President of the Malta Avenue Parent Teacher
Organization, served as a member of the District Reading and Writing Committee,
and represented the district at the Capital Area School Development Association
forum on excellence in education. She is a former educator, museum director and
public relations coordinator (for the Ballston Spa Central School District).
Kathy currently serves as President of the March of Dimes Board for the
Northeastern New York Division and is the Director of Marketing and Public
Relations for Proctor's Theater.
Kathy and her husband, Rick, are 30-year residents of the district and have two
daughters, Samantha and Alexandra, who are proud graduates of the Ballston Spa
Central School District. |

Keith
Stewart (Vice President)
Keith Stewart has resided in the district since 1980. He owns the State Farm
Insurance Agency in the town of Ballston. He and his wife, Andrea, have two sons
in attendance at Ballston Spa schools. Keith has a Masters degree from the
University at Albany and his undergraduate work was completed at the State
University College at Oneonta. He is a mentor for business students at Skidmore
College, an annual participant in the Job Shadowing program at the middle school
and volunteers as a coach for the BARC summer track program. He also teaches an
insurance course for the high school's driver education programs. Keith is a
member of the Capital District Society of Financial Professionals.
Keith Stewart has served on the Board of Education since July 2000. He has
served on the Finance, Instructional and Pupil Services Committees. He also
worked on the Board's Strategic Plan Task Force, as well as the district's
Athletic Subcommittee. Presently he is the Vice President of the Board of
Education. |

Nancy Fodera
Nancy Fodera was elected in
1997 and is serving her fourth term on the Board of Education. She is currently
a member of the community and public relations committee. She is a group family
day care provider and serves as secretary to the Planning Board of the Town of
Malta. Nancy has served as president of the Milton Terrace PTA, chaired many PTA
programs, and volunteers her time in all of the schools for various activities.
She currently serves as the Board representative to the PTA Council, is on the
Community Outreach Committee and on the Youth Awareness School
Committee. She has also been involved with the Girl Scouts since 1993.
Nancy currently lives with her husband and two children and has been a district
resident since 1971. |

Patrick Leanza
Patrick Leanza is currently serving his fifth term on the Board of Education. He
is currently serving as a member of the finance committee and previously served
on the community and human resources committee. An active member of the
community, he’s a coach and executive committee member of the Ballston Spa
Soccer Club, board member of the Ballston Area Community Center, member and past
chair of the Ballston Area Recreation Committee, and an active member of the
Ballston Spa Elks.
Mr.
Leanza recently retired as a computer programmer with the New York State
Department of Audit and Control. A district resident since 1969, he lives with
his wife and has four children, all of whom are Ballston Spa graduates. |

Jeanne Obermayer
Jeanne Obermayer was elected to the Board in
2005. She is currently a member of the community and public relations
committee. She has lived in Milton since 1990 and she and her husband have two
children attending school in the district. She is also on the Board of Trustees
for Brookside Museum, teaches religious education, and is involved in other
community activities. Mrs. Obermayer is the Assistant Vice President for Student
Affairs/Dean of Students at Siena College. She has degrees from Duquesne
University and Bowling Green State University. |

Kevin Schaefer
Kevin Schaefer was
appointed to a vacant seat on the Board in January 2006, and then elected to a
full term in May 2006. He is currently a member of the community and public
relations committee. He has lived in the district for over 15 years and has been
involved in school and community sports with his family. He currently resides in
Malta and has a son attending the high school. He is employed by the New York
State Teachers Retirement System as a manager in the Information Services
department. He has degrees from Union College and from Siena College. |

Frank Townley
Frank Townley has served six terms on the Board of
Education. He has previously served as Board president and vice president. He is
currently a member of the community and public relations committee. Mr. Townley
owns and operates the Wheeler Funeral Home. He is active in community
organizations such as the Ballston Spa Rotary Club. He lives in Ballston Spa
with his wife, Mary. He has two sons, both graduates of Ballston Spa. |
