 About Our School

The Ballston Spa Middle School is located at 210 Ballston Avenue, Ballston Spa, NY at the High School and Middle School campus. The middle school
houses over 1100 children in grades 6, 7, and 8. There are approximately 100 adults who enable the children to learn in the Middle School.

The school has been recognized in the book entitled The Exemplary Middle School written by Dr. Paul George, Professor Emeritus
at Florida State University. There are outstanding opportunities for students in the academic courses of English/language arts, social studies,
mathematics, and science. The humanities program presents a wide array of exploratory programs in a unified arts approach.
Some offerings are: technology, home economics, art, and music.

Students are offered a choice of foreign languages to study and they are able to complete the N.Y.S. requirement of two years of
study in a 2nd language prior to the end of grade eight.

The program provides accelerated courses of study in art, mathematics and science for children who have demonstrated competencies. A criterion for
participation has been established. Parents should contact counselors for more information.

The emphasis of the Guidance Counseling program is a "whole child" approach. Social, educational and developmental areas are addressed in addition
to career awareness and high school planning. School personnel, parents/guardians and students themselves make referrals to counselors.
The counseling office maintains an "open door" policy allowing students to seek help at any time of the school day.

B.S.M.S. has consistently provided many co-curricular activities, which are very popular with our students. Some are computer club, school dances,
student council, service club, yearbook, school paper, ski clubs and a cultural activities/travel club. A strong component of the middle level program is
attention to  personal growth in the social arena and in the development of positive self-esteem. This is accomplished  through our counseling
program, and the  6th grade Student Agenda Program.

Our district has recently built a new high school and incorporated major renovations for our Middle School, that included a new library,
computer labs, classrooms, as well as a swimming pool and auditorium.
