Tip of the Month

 

Announcements:  

  • Interact will meet today(1/6) in room 212 to sign up for and discuss the volunteer work for the Rotary Club Fashion Show. New members are always welcome.
     

  • Ski club starts today(1/6). We will meet in the front of the school at 2:30pm to depart for West Mountain.
     

  • Attention Varsity Club members- we will meet this Wednesday 1/7/09 in room 343 after school
     

  • Want Change? Take Action! Join Student Council this Thursday (1/8) after school in room 214. Everyone is welcome. We will be discussing plans for the upcoming Fire and Ice Dance.
     

  • Theater Outreach is hosting a Guitar Hero tournament. There will be great prizes for first, second and third place. The tournament will be Sat. Jan. 17 at 11am. See Mrs. Larson for an entrance form. There will be a $10 registration fee. Registration will end Jan. 14. There are limited spots so sign up today. 
     

  • The Environmental Club and the PTSA will be collecting electronics for recycling again this year.  Please place items to be recycled in the boxes located in the Main Office or Library.  We will only be accepting used printer cartridges, cell phones, mp3 players, DVD and game systems
     

  • The Environmental Club  would like to make everyone aware of the small changes we can make in our daily lives to help conserve our planet and its natural resources.   This month's topic is about the importance of recycling Plastic – A plastic jug takes 1 million years to decompose. It's easy to see how small changes in our habits add up to help save the Earth!!

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL
Amnesty International’s mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination within the context of its work to promote all human rights.  More info......

ANIME`/INTERNATIONAL CLUB
The Anime/International Club is for students who are interested in exploring Japanese Anime (animation), and the Japanese language and culture.  The club also includes the exploration of other cultures and languages.  More  info.......

ART CLUB -
Art club is an after-school activity that provides an opportunity for students to participate in the arts.  Art club will support school spirit and community involvement.

Best Buddies match students with intellectual disabilities with high school students from general education to create one-to-one friendships.   More info...

BIOLOGY CLUB/ENVIROTHON
The Biology Club/Envirothon is a group of students who study environmental issues in four areas:  Soils, Aquatics, Wildlife, and Forestry, in order to compete at the local and state levels of Envirothon.  In addition, each year we study a current topic and prepare a solution to an environmental problem in the area of the current topic

CLASS INVOLVEMENT
The class officers, CSL representatives, and all interested students within your grade meet to organize and run fundraising activities to benefit your class, the high school, and the community.  You start as freshmen to fundraise funds for your senior year activities (i.e.: prom, senior banquet, senior picnic/breakfast).  Getting involved with your class promotes class unity and class morale.   More  info.......

COMMUNICATIONS CLUB
Runs the morning TV News Show and assist in other school filming projects.  More  info.......

DRAMA TROUPE
The Drama Troupe performs two productions each year.   Both musicals and plays are presented.   Students are invited to audition for acting roles or to apply for technical positions.  Rehearsals are held during the week, after school or at night.  Set buildings are generally done on Saturdays.  More  info.......

ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY CLUB
This club is set up for group and individual projects in any technology area offered, that students might not be able to schedule

GOLD CARD CLUB
The Gold Card Club helps maintain the Gold Card program.  The gold card is an incentive for students to behave in a more responsible manner.  Eligibility is based on teacher ratings of student behavior and not academic criteria.  It will recognize positive, responsible behavior with tangible rewards both in school and in the community.  More  info.......

LIVE DIFFERENT -
We are a group of students who are meeting to learn how to “live different” through service and moral standards.  More Info...

MOCK TRIAL
Participants are part of the New York State Bar’s Annual Mock Trial Tournament.  Teams from Saratoga County prepare a fictitious case and argue both the prosecution and defense in front of sitting court judges.  More  info.......

Tri-M is a music honor society.  You must be accepted into this based on national criteria.  More  info.......

NATIONAL COALITION BUILDING INSTITUTE (NCBI)
NCBI workshops are held once or twice a month at State Farm on respecting diversity.  The goal of this program is to promote a more caring environment.  More  info.......

ODYSSEY OF THE MIND
Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Kids apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and world level. Thousands of teams from throughout the United States and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.  More  info.......

RESPECT AND ACCEPTANCE CLUB
The goal of Respect and Acceptance Club is to foster respect, a fundamental positive attitude extended by choice to people and things with a genuine acknowledgement of their inherent rights, needs, and worth.  The group is one way for all students to fit into a group, feel accepted and do positive things for their school.  It promotes the differences between those in the school.  We search to find “unity within diversity” and to help everyone put aside differences.  More  info.......

ROBOTICS CLUB -
A local community club committed to competing in the us First robotic challenge in March. Open to students, parents and community members interested in varsity sport of robotics.  More info......

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD
Science Olympiad is an academic, interscholastic competition that consists of a series of individual and team events, which the students prepare for throughout the year.  The events are well balanced between the various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, computers and technology.  The team of 15 students competes in 18 events, which range from construction of a robot or balsa tower to college level pen-and-paper assessments.  More  info.......

Skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts enjoy an evening once a week at West Mountain.  More  info.......

STUDENTS AGAINST DESTRUCTIVE DECISIONS (SADD)SADD Club promotes the prevention of destructive decision-making.  Our members are positive role models for the entire student body.   More  info.......

Student Council meets once a month or as needed for an event, to discuss activities in the High School, and any student concern.  More  info.......

STUDENTS HELPING STUDENTS (SHS) -

SWING DANCE
Swing Dance is an opportunity for students from all parts of our school district to get together, share their love of dance, and have a great time!  More  info.......

THEATRE OUTREACH
The objective of this club is to bring alternative theatre projects in to elementary schools and into the community.  More  info.......

VARSITY CLUB

·         To work together for the improvement of Varsity Athletics

·         To promote athletic team interest in student body both in participation and as a spectator.

·         To encourage and lead in good sportsmanship.

Students are involved in designing layouts, taking photographs, and writing copy for the yearbook.  More  info.......

YOUTH COURT
Students act as court officers and try low-level cases involving their peers.  Court officers and defendants agree upon a “sentence” for each crime.  More  info.......

To participate in any extra curricular activity, a student must be in attendance for the entire academic day.

Club Meeting Schedule

To join an activity, contact the advisor or attend one of the meetings. You may join some clubs by attending a meeting,  and others, you must be selected. Check the schedule above  for meeting dates, times and locations that are scheduled or announced with the morning announcements.

In addition to the clubs, each class elects officers each year to run fundraisers and class activities. Your senior prom will be subsidized by these activities. All students are invited to participate. Class officers are also members of the student government. All positions are elected annually so interested  students may become involved throughout their high school careers.
