June ~ Junior Year
Yearbook:
We are pleased to
announce that Village Photo (11Malta Avenue, Ballston Spa, 885-0396)
is the official senior portrait photographer for Ballston Spa High
School. The yearbook
needs to have your finished portrait by the end of
September (no
exceptions), in order to include it in the Senior
Section of the yearbook. This means you must make an
appointment for a summer sitting early in the summer. Complete
information was sent home to all juniors, but is also
available in the high school main office. You may also
check out the Village Photo website:
www.villagephotollc.com or you may call the
yearbook office at 884-7150 ext. 2322 with any
questions.
July/August
Yearbook:
Check
Senior Portrait Proofs and select the one you want for the yearbook.
College Exploration:
Visit college campuses of the schools that interest you.

September
College
exploration findings:
Meet with
your counselor to discuss your college exploration
findings. Reduce your preliminary college list to approximately 5-10
colleges. Write to each colleges director of admission to request its
catalog, application forms, and financial aid information. Create a
complete checklist of test names and registration deadlines for SAT
I, SAT 2, ACT, fees, college application and financial aid deadlines.
Register for the SAT and/or ACT exams. Continue to make college
visits (best time is when students are in session).
Yearbook:
Finished
portraits must be turned into the yearbook office by the end of
September if
they are to be included in the yearbook. Choose the pose you want
for the yearbook, or the staff will choose for you.
Parking Permits:
Pick
up form in Assistant Principal's office. Have it signed by your
parent/guardian, have your parent/guardian write a note giving
permission for you to drive a specific car to school.
Bring form, note, schedule and your license back to the AP office for
approval. See Parking Policy

Diploma Forms:
Fill
out diploma order form and return to the main office.
Order
your Cap and Gown:
Listen to
Announcements
for exact date.
Attend local
college fairs:
(ACC, Albany Egg, High School Library)
College exploration:
Meet with college
representatives during HS visits.
College applications:
Request college
recommendation letters from teachers, coaches, community members,
employers (give them at least 3 weeks)
Work on college
essays.
Take the SAT
and/or ACT
exams a second time.

will receive a form in the mail for ordering a yearbook and
name-stamping, as well as family ads, and photo ads.

Decision, discuss thoroughly with the college, your parents and your
guidance counselor. Apply this month.
Attend the
Ballston Spa Financial Aid Night
Interested in private schools? Obtain the PROFILE
form from the Guidance Office: a financial aid application for most
private schools.

Forms.

December
Submit college applications
(give guidance at least 2 weeks turn-around time). Dec. 15 is the usual
deadline date to submit applications to the guidance office for many
selective colleges. Other colleges have deadlines in February or later.
Gather together
family financial information. Begin to complete your
Free Application for Federal
Student Aid FAFSA;
PROFILE,
if required; and institutional financial aid applications.
[Note: there are websites that will charge a fee to
complete a FAFSA. It is
NOT
necessary to pay to fill out a FAFSA.
There is a free website at
www.fafsa.ed.gov or you can get a free form to fill out and mail in.

Apply for local scholarships. Check in guidance office
scholarship file.

Plan campus visits
and overnight stays to help you decide your final college choice.
Apply for local
scholarships and any other source of
financial aid.
Fill out
senior
surveys
in Guidance Office.

March
Colleges begin to
announce admissions decisions. Begin to decide which college is the best
fit for you. Talk with your parents, counselor, and friends for helpful
advice.
Sign up for AP
Exams in the Guidance Office. Test dates are in May.

April
Carefully review
financial aid award notices from all colleges. Call or write the
college financial aid office if you have any questions.
Reminder: tuition
and housing deposits are due at many colleges on or about May 1.
Check local scholarship deadlines.

May |
|
|
As soon as
possible after May 1, notify colleges to which you were accepted of your
decision to attend.
Senior Prom
