1. Start by going to
the library
catalog. Type in the words that describe what you want to find and
then click the appropriate icon.
For example, if you are looking for a book and you know the author,
type the author's name, last name first, and then click on the Author icon
. You will get a list of authors to choose
from. Click on the one you want to see a list of the books we have in the
library that were written by that author.
If you are looking for a book and you
know the title, type the title, and then click on the Title
icon . You will get a list of titles to
choose from. Click on the one you want to see a list of the books we have
in the library that with that title.
- If you are looking for a book
about a certain subject, type the word or words that best
describe the subject, and then click on the Subject icon
. You will get a list of titles to choose
from. Click on the one you want to see a list of the books we have in
the library on that subject. If you don't find any books listed, try:
- Checking your spelling
- Clicking on the Keyword icon

- Using a different word to describe your
subject
2. Notice the column on
the far right labeled Status. Is the book In or Out? If the
book you want is out, click on the title. On the Title Information screen,
click on the Email Request button .
Fill in the form and click send to have the book saved for you. Be sure to
include your name, and the name of a teacher that will deliver a message
to you when the book is available.
If the book is In, make a note of the Call Number (NOTE: Some
call numbers are all letters!) The Call Number tells you where to find
the book.
3. Using the call number,
locate the book on the shelf (here is a Map of the
Library):
- If the call number begins with numbers,
look on the non-fiction shelves. The books there are arranged in
numerical order.
- If the call number begins with a letter
or letters (Collection Code) , look in the section of the library that corresponds to the
letter:
NOTE: look at the signs on the walls that label the sections.
B=Biography
CC=College and Career
F=Fiction
R=Reference
SC=Story Collections
- Some sections are
located in the store room. If the item you are looking for has the
following Collection Code, ask at the desk:
Audio=Audio tape
A/V=AV equipment
DVD=DVD
Per=Periodical (magazine)
Pro=Professional (books for faculty)
Video=Video tape
