HOW does the program WORK?
| |
During their Junior year, students
must apply and meet the criterion to be accepted into the
program for the following year. This
criterion includes senior
standing, excellent attendance, good academic standing, positive
teacher evaluations, a valid driver’s license, a recent physical, and current
working papers. Their schedule must also allow time
either through late arrival, early release, or out-of-school hours to complete
the on-the-job portion of the internship.
Students must supply their own transportation to their
internship placement. Each week the interns meet with their mentors for
approximately 4 hours and also attend a seminar class with the Coordinator.
They are responsible for handing in signed timesheets each week and completing
journal entries that reflect on their experiences.
At the end of their internship, the
intern is evaluated by their mentor. Seniors may elect to take CEIP for ½
unit of credit or 1 full unit of credit. CEIP is a Pass/ Fail course. All
interns are covered by the Ballston Spa Central School District’s insurance
policy.

WHERE do students INTERN?
| |
Health Care; Hospitality; Engineering; Education…Internship
placements are as varied as the students themselves. During this last decade of
offering CEIP at Ballston Spa High School, we have been fortunate to have the
incredible support of businesses and mentors in the Capital-Saratoga Region,
who offer excellent experiences for our interns. Their mentoring makes a
difference in the lives of our students and their families in regard to their
career majors and college choices. With few exceptions, if the student wants to
explore a particular career, a suitable placement is typically found. |
