FINE ARTS - ART
Satisfactory completion of one credit in Studio in Art
may be used to meet the one credit in Art or Music required of all
students to meet graduation requirements as prescribed by the NYS
Education Department.
Students may substitute a 5-unit sequence in Art for
the Foreign Language requirement of a Regents Diploma with Advanced
Designation. |

1 UNIT COURSES |
|
STUDIO IN ART - This course is REQUIRED for all students for a
sequence in Art and is a prerequisite course to any other art course
offered, excluding crafts. In addition, it is also recommended for
students who wish to round out their education with a general art
experience. In the Studio in Art course students work with drawing,
painting, sculpture, printing, and craft materials. |

CREATIVE CRAFTS - The fundamentals of three-dimensional design are
introduced over a full year through the creation of crafts in various
materials. The course includes: basket weaving, mosaics, wood burning,
ceramics and other crafts. |

STUDIO IN DRAWING AND PAINTING - This is an elective course in Drawing and Painting.
It includes the use of drawing and painting materials including pencil,
charcoal, pastels, pen and ink, water colors, and acrylics. The course
covers self-expression and exploration of how different art mediums work
as well as professional preparation, use and display of work. |

STUDIO IN CERAMICS - This is an elective course which provides an opportunity
to explore the method of making pottery, hand building, wheel throwing,
glazing techniques, and the use of form and texture for functional and
sculptural applications. |

ART PORTFOLIO/ SEMINAR - AP - This class is designed for students who want to learn
advanced theories as well as complete a professional portfolio of their
artwork. Students must have completed the most advanced art courses in the
media they have chosen. Acceptance into this course will also be based on
teacher recommendation which examines talent, level of responsibility, and
self motivation. College acceptance practices, advanced placement work and
professional portfolio creation will be covered. Students are expected to
submit their portfolio for AP credit. It is strongly suggested that
students interested in applying for AP credit begin this course during their
junior year. |

1/2 UNIT COURSES |
|
STUDIO IN GRAPHICS - This is an elective course in graphic design. It will
provide experience in design, illustration and printmaking techniques as
well as computer graphics. Students will create a variety of projects
ranging from posters to package design. |

STUDIO IN PHOTOGRAPHY I - The basic techniques covered in black and white
photography are: camera use, film development, enlarging, print finishing
and presentation. Emphasis will be placed on image and technique to produce
expressive images. Students must furnish a 35 mm camera, film, and
developing paper. Use of both digital camera and Adobe Photoshop software
are included. |

STUDIO IN PHOTOGRAPHY II - Advanced techniques in both color and black and white
photography are presented. Aspects of commercial, advertising, portraiture,
journalism, and fine art photography are covered. Students will continue
their exploration of digital photography utilizing Photoshop. |

STUDIO IN SCULPTURE - This is a general studio course in Sculpture
(three-dimensional art), utilizing additive, subtractive and constructive
methods in media such as clay, plaster, wood, stone and metal. |
